We are delighted to announce that we have awarded $10,000 in Foundation SA’s first Neighbourhood Grants round. We received 11 applications and awarded 5 grants of $2,000 each, with an additional project receiving funding from one of our sub-funds.
The Neighbourhood Grants aim to support acts of community connection that strengthen the bonds of neighbourhoods, led by people in their own communities.
All projects demonstrated great community connection with a diverse range of target populations.
The successful projects are:
Social Connections Groups – a safe space for survivors of family and domestic violence to come together to build community connections, have social interactions, and support one another. A program run by Hands of Hope Foundation across multiple locations in conjunction with Women’s Safety Services.
Marino Community Garden All Weather Shelter Project – a volunteer run open access, community garden providing opportunities for year-round learning and social activities to develop an awareness of organic gardening and healthy lifestyles in the South.
Community Champion Project –engaging neighbourhoods in the Marion area in a variety of activities including a walking group, fruit and vegetable carts and social activities. Led by volunteer community champions and run by Junction.
Women’s Choir – After surveying women in the western suburbs the Villagehood Women’s Choir was developed creating an opportunity for connection, team work and sharing in the joy of music.
The Kensington Residents Association (KRA) will engage with Kaurna Leaders to revitalise and share the deep time culture, language, wisdom and knowledge of the area with the local community.
We’ve also had one of our sub-funds come forward to fund the Youth Inc – Future Pathways inspiring cultural and creative industry pathways program. This is a great outcome and demonstrates the benefits of community foundations connecting funders to grass roots projects.
Congratulations to all our successful grant recipients and thank you to all who applied.
If you are interested in learning more about the projects that were submitted, please get in touch and we will share a brief description of the 5 unfunded projects with you: grants@foundationsa.org.au.

We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of the Adelaide region on which our office stands, the Kaurna people. We acknowledge all First Nations peoples and their deep connection to the land. The dispossession and treatment that has occurred, still impacts on the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today. We walk hand-in-hand with all First Nations peoples on the path to reconciliation.
