Foundation SA is a state-wide community foundation created in 2021 to increase giving in South Australia. Our role is to raise funds and support South Australians in need. We are a non-government, non-profit organisation.

Foundation SA is committed to the highest standards of governance. We recognise that the stewardship of our community’s philanthropic assets is a significant responsibility and that our donors put their trust in us to be accountable for what we do and to be transparent in how we do it.

Foundation SA takes care of all compliance requirements, due diligence, administration and reporting. Our work complies with Public Ancillary Fund Guidelines and is overseen by the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC) and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Our role is to ensure your generous donation reaches the communities that need it most in the most efficient and effective way possible.

Non-profit organisations endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient 1 (DGR1) based in South Australia can apply. We also accept applications from non-profit organisations that have an auspice partner with DGR1 status. We will support and prioritise smaller organisations that often rely on grants and fundraising to continue their activities.

Organisations are invited to apply for grant funding that supports acts of community connection that is led or informed by the people directly affected by the issue. We want to support local leadership and collective action to strengthen community-led initiatives.

Applications for Neighbourhood Grants are assessed by a volunteer committee of community members and Foundation SA staff. They asses each application against the grant guidelines and key criteria on our website.

To ensure Foundation SA is representative of the needs of the community we serve, we engage and consult with donors, community members and subject matter experts to determine the role we play in creating positive impact. Wherever possible, we also seek feedback and guidance from those at the heart of the issues we may be exploring.

Yes, private foundations can support these grants. Please speak to us about how this can be done. Foundation SA and a number of our donor-advised sub-funds are also contributing to the grant pool.

Foundation SA is well positioned to ensure your donations reach the communities that need it most. We will seek grant applications from South Australian organisations that can deliver projects that strengthen communities to make them more connected, resilient and sustainable.
